A late spring and very cool summer with a good heat spell in September made the 1999 growing season ideal. A smaller crop yield combined with warmer weather conditions than in 1998 made for a consistent and controlled harvest.
This blend is fresh, lively and flavorful. A wine of depth, the 1999 Conundrum pumps out the flavors and aromas of the varietals that make up the blend. Built around the floral/tropical nose of the Muscat varietal, the Viognier and Sémillon add spicy characteristics and additional floral opulence. Sauvignon Blanc, being clean and juicy, adds body. The Chardonnay is included to help round out the whole. The viscous Chardonnay character, together with the Muscat, leads to a richly flavored, succulent finish.
Portions or "lots" were fermented in stainless steel. The 1999 Conundrum was mostly aged in French and American oak for 7 months.
It is highly recommended that this wine be served slightly chilled and enjoyed with a variety of foods.
