2002 Vintage
Wine Spectator, June
15, 2004: Rated 88: Round and ripe, with a panoply of melon, orange rind,
pear and floral tones. Tangy citrus notes and a hint of vanilla shape the
intense finish. Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat Canelli, Viognier and
Sémillon.
Wall Street
Journal, May 21, 2004: We thought we'd share with you some
other specific whites that have been our summer favorites over the
years....Of course, there's no reason to drink them only in summer,
but we associate them with warm weather, so that's what we do.
Conundrum from California: We first had this at Cellar in the Sky at
the World Trade Center in 1991...so we are clearly biased, but this
continues to be a unique wine. It's made from several kinds of
grapes, giving it all sorts of flavors that are hard to put your
finger on....Its fruitiness would make it good with port, but it's
especially good just to sip before, or after, a nice dinner.
In fact, it also would have paired well with our desert at the
Cellar that night.
Vancouver Sun/gismondionwine.com,
Nov. 15,2004(Anthony Gismondi): Rated 90/100:
Nice spicy, floral, honey, baked pear, orange,
mineral aromas. Rich, round, slightly oily entry with a touch of sweetness. Ripe
pear, apple, mineral, kiwi, grapefruit, honey, orange flavour with a very creamy
vanilla lees finish. Nice intensity and balance...
San Francisco Chronicle, December 2,
2004: Very good and the panel favorite. Subtle pear and citrus aromas;
clean, fruity style with grapefruit rind, melon, green apple and mineral
flavors; smooth mouthfeel; oak on the finish.
Weekly Planet (Tampa, FL), July 14,
2004 (Taylor Eason): Rated 4˝ Planets: This label reads "White
Table Wine" because the winemaker blends several different grapes to create this
gorgeous, lush beverage. The Conundrum formula changes each year, and this one
smells so good I want to climb into the bottle and live. Seductive and rich with
spicy-floral, honeysuckle and vanilla. There's a slight hint of sweetness, yet
it's art at the same time. Magnificent.
Jacksonville
magazine (FL), June 2005:
…among
the very first upscale wines to offer a screw top in place of a cork. Gebert
says the blend of floral, tropical and spicy flavors gives the wine “its own
unique flavor unlike any other white Meritage. It’s medium-bodied and easy to
drink in hot weather.”
Grand
Rapids (MI) Press,
November 16, 2005:
If you
want to go for broke, try Conundrum. When you are tired of Chardonnay, this
delightful white wine will complement every course. It is an interesting blend
of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat Canelli, Viognier and Semillon and worth
hoarding.
